A native of Philadelphia, Jerrell Jackson, began playing the bass at the age of ten. While attending college at Temple University, Jerrell became an active musician in the Philadelphia area. He has played several times with the young and exciting Symphony in C(formerly the Haddonfield Symphony) under the direction of Rossen Milanov and has played in recital with mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Along with Classical music, Jerrell also has an interest in Arabic music. In 2009, Jerrell became a member of the Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble, led by violinist Hanna Khoury. With this ensemble, Jerrell has shared the stage with virtuoso oud/violinist Simon Shaheenand in March, 2011, and will perform with Marcel Khalife.
Jerrell is currently the Double Bass Teaching Artist at Play On Philly and has served as faculty for the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra serving the PRYSM Youth Orchestra (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music) as the Double Bass coach. Jerrell studied bass with Joseph Conyers and John Hood of the Philadelphia Orchestra and has attended Domaine Forget in Quebec, Canada to study with Paul Ellison, David Allen Moore and Etienne LaFrance.
